Effect van vetten en eiwitten op de insulinenood bij kinderen en jongeren met diabetes type 1

Demeestere Lowie, Roeygens Geike, 2025
Understanding how different nutrients affect insulin needs in children and adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes. This study takes a closer look at how children and adolescents with type 1 diabetes should adjust their insulin when eating meals that are high in protein and fat - like pizza, french fries, cheese salads. Right now, most people with diabetes calculate their insulin dose based only on the amount of carbohydrates in their food. But this method might not work as well for meals that are high in fat and protein. By reviewing and analyzing existing research, this study aims to find out whether different insulin strategies could help improve blood sugar control in young people with type 1 diabetes. The results could help families and healthcare providers better understand how meals containing fatty and/or protein rich foods affect insulin needs - leading to safer and more effective diabetes management.
